Ethereum gas is a core component of Ethereum’s blockchain network. In this episode of Ask an Expert, our blockchain expert Taylor explains what Ethereum gas is, and how it differs from Ethereum’s cryptocurrency: Ether. Check out our video, and see below for the script for this video episode! Stay tuned and subscribe as we update and add more Ask an Expert episodes to Youtube!
What is Ethereum gas?
Ethereum gas is an internal unit of account for transactions on the Ethereum network. The total units required to run a transaction is multiplied by a gas price to yield the total transaction fee. This is like filling up a petrol car with gas to go on a trip. Ethereum gas price is expressed as “Ether per unit of gas”, similar to how fuel stations list the price in “dollars per gallon” (or Euros per liter).

The Donkey Theory: It may not be the most expensive or attractive, but it gets you to your destination!
After my horrific week, I knew I had to get my shit straight, or I’d DEFINITELY lose all my funds by not learning from these stupid rookie mistakes. So I sat down and thought about what had just transpired and how I could AVOID it from ever happening again. It was rough going through it but it made me a better investor in the long run (or so I keep telling myself).
When I came across crypto as an investment, I was interested but did not put too much money in my initial investment (1st mistake). Mind you, it was scary, techy, and something I was not familiar with, but the reason I was attracted to it was because of the potential gains on my investment. But once you’re done freaking yourself out, it really is just a very serious game, in a sense.

Grammy-winning DJ and dance music artist, RAC, will be releasing his album EGO on the Ethereum blockchain in partnership with Ujo Music company on Friday, July 14th. André Allen Anjos, better known as RAC, began learning about crypto and blockchains in late 2016, not long after he completed recording his new album.
RAC told Motherboard, “When the price of ether started to go up I looked more into it. That’s when the lightbulbs went off and I was like, ‘oh wow, this is legit.’” At this point, he decided to partner up with a Consensys platform, Ujo Music, to release his new album on the Ethereum blockchain.
Although the album will be released on the Ethereum blockchain, it will not be hosted there. Interplanetary File System (IPFS), a decentralized protocol for file storage, will host the album. To acquire the album, send Ether to a smart contract, which then releases the album to your device.
